Annapolis, MD – March 27, 2009 – The Chesapeake Regional Tech Council demonstrated that technology is alive and well in the Chesapeake region, honoring six area companies and tech leaders last night at its 4th Annual TechAwards program. Nearly 300 technology executives and leaders filled The Westin Annapolis and jammed to tunes from rock band Radio City as the CRTC unveiled the winners.
According to Michael Ryan, President of South River Technologies: “The event was a huge success. The enthusiasm and energy level could be felt not only during the main ceremony, but also in the networking periods before and after the show. The breadth and depth of companies represented is a testimony to the growth potential of the Chesapeake Region.”
Created by the CRTC, a non-profit organization providing resources and education to regional technology companies, the awards recognized innovation and leadership in tech firms throughout the Annapolis-Washington-Baltimore area in a video presentation created by Take One Digital Media.
A 12-member selection committee chose award winners, after a rigorous two-month nomination and blind selection process. Top nominees in four categories vied for the top honor last night. Two other awards were appointed.

Individual: Mark L. Powell
Mark Powell, founder and CEO of Sidus Group (www.sidusgroup.com) in Annapolis is a well-known face throughout the technology community. Powell has bettered the lives of regional residents and businesses alike through his tireless work behind the scenes with organizations such as the 21st Century Foundation, the Hospice of the Chesapeake and the Elite Service Disabled Veterans of America-Maryland Chapter among many others. He has served on Anne Arundel County’s Budget Task Force and Public Schools Task Force. Mark was honored at a Tech Titan during the 2007 TechAwards ceremony, a distinction brought by his dedication to the council as it re-built and grew from 2004 through 2007. He remains on the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council’s board as President Emeritus and led the tech council through its rebranding. Additional awards include 2008 Capital-Gazette Anne Arundel County Business Leader of the Year, awarded by Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce and 2008, One of the “Top 25 CEO’s You Need to Know in Maryland,” selected by the Maryland Gazette of Business & Politics.
